Jesus is Condemned by the Sanhedrin
We adore you, O Christ and we praise you.
Because by your holy cross, you have redeemed the world.
Reading
Many people gave false evidence against Jesus, but their stories did not agree. Finally the high priest asked him, “Are you the Messiah, the Son of God?” Jesus said, “I am, and you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of the Power of God coming on the clouds of heaven.” Then the high priest tor his clothes and said, “You have heard his blasphemy! What is your decision?” And they condemned him as deserving death.
Response
Although he was harshly treated, he submitted and opened not his mouth; like a lamb led to the slaughter or a sheep before the shearers, he was silent and uttered no cry.
Prayer
Lord God,
we know that you are with us
and that you behold all we do and say.
Grant that, by the light of your Holy Spirit,
we might be earnest in our search for truth,
and fair in our judgments of others.
Amen.
With what pain and desolation,
With what noble resignation,
Mary watched her dying Son.
