CCD (Confraternity of Christian Doctrine)
Confraternity of Christian Doctrine or CCD (also called "Parish School of Religion" or PSR in some parishes) is our program of catechesis for parish children from the age of 4 through grade 8 who do not attend Catholic school.
Like all of our program offerings at the Newman Center, CCD is an integral part of our vision of Campus Ministry. We staff our program with a combination of student and non-student parishioners providing an integrated ministry for both our college students and our children. In compliance with the Diocese of Youngstown child protection policy, all catechists undergo a background check and must adhere to diocesan policies.
Meeting Times and Locations
As you may have heard, we anticipate that by July 1, 2023 there will be only one priest serving the Kent parishes. What that will look like has not yet been determined but in anticipation of that reality, we are continuing to combine some of our parish programming with St. Patrick. For years we have enjoyed a combined youth ministry (RT59YM) and Confirmation celebrations. This year we will be moving our 7th and 8th grade to St. Patrick to develop a shared Confirmation preparation in hopes of deepening the Confirmation experience. Additionally all University Parish families are welcome to register for PSR (CCD) at St. Patrick if it proves easier for your family.
Sunday morning CCD offerings at University Parish Newman Center:
9:30-10:50 am Grades 2-6 (no 3rd grade class this year)
11:00 am-12:15 pm Preschool, Kindergarten, and 1st grade
Classes begin September 18.
Sunday morning PSR offerings at St. Patrick (held in the school)
9:40-10:50 am Pre-school through 8th grade
7th and 8th graders must attend religious education at St. Patrick.
Classes begin September 11.
Enrollment and Fees
Registration materials have been mailed to currently registered families. Please contact Carmen Roebke if you have not yet received your materials. New student registration is available on this page or you may contact Carmen directly.
Fees for CCD for parish members is $35 per child or $60 per familiy with two or more children. These fees cover the cost of books and materials as well as help defray the expense of plant maintenance. No staff salary is paid from CCD fees. There is a special fee schedule and registration requirement for non-parishioners wishing to enroll their child in our program. Please see Carmen Roebke for more information if this applies to your situation.
