CCD (Confraternity of Christian Doctrine)
Confraternity of Christian Doctrine or CCD (also called "Parish School of Religion" or PSR in some parishes) is our program of catechesis for parish children from the age of 4 through grade 8 who do not attend Catholic school.
Like all of our program offerings at the Newman Center, CCD is an integral part of our vision of Campus Ministry. We staff our program with a combination of student and non-student parishioners providing an integrated ministry for both our college students and our children. In compliance with the Diocese of Youngstown child protection policy, all catechists undergo a background check and must adhere to diocesan policies.
Meeting Times and Locations
Due to the space limitations of our building we offer CCD on two separate days: Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings. Sunday morning classes for the 2019-2020 school year begin September 22 and Wednesday evening classes begin September 25.
Preschool, Kindergarten, Grade 1 classes meet on Sunday mornings from 11:00 am to 12:15 pm in the downstairs meeting rooms. These rooms can be accessed from the stairwell on the south side of the building between the bathrooms and the kitchen. Please note: Children must be 4 years of age by October 1 to participate in our preschool program. Please note: we will only offer a preschool class if we have five registered students.
Grades 2-8 meet on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm. Classes are held in both the downstairs meeting rooms and all available spaces upstairs. Locations for each class are based on enrollment so classrooms will be posted on the first class meeting.
Enrollment and Fees
Registration packets for new students are available in the back of church. Please contact Carmen Roebke if you need assistance obtaining a registration packet.
Fees for CCD for parish members is $35 per child. These fees cover the cost of books and materials as well as help defray the expense of plant maintenance. No staff salary is paid from CCD fees. There is a special fee schedule and registration requirement for non-parishioners wishing to enroll their child in our program. Please see Carmen Roebke for more information if this applies to your situation.
Included in each packet is a Registration/Medical form. We must have this form on file before your child can be admitted to class. Fees and Registration/Medical forms are due by September 9. If you are unable to pay your fees by this date, please see Fr. Steve to make other arrangements.
